Snow Day Cast estimates the chance of a snow day for any US ZIP code from the National Weather Service forecast. It exists because the popular snow day calculators are black boxes: they ask for your ZIP and a "hype level" and give a number with no explanation. Here every threshold in the model is published, the forecast inputs are shown alongside the result, and the source is named.
Who runs it
Snow Day Cast is published by Galena Hall, a small independent publisher of education and reference websites.
How it is funded
The predictor is free. The site may carry advertising in future. It sells nothing and takes no payment for placement.
Accuracy
The forecast is the National Weather Service's; the closing model is ours, and its state thresholds are judgements rather than measured statistics. Districts decide. If your district closed and the site said it would not, or the reverse, tell us the ZIP and the date; that is how the thresholds get better.
Privacy in one line
Your ZIP code is sent to our server to fetch the forecast and is not stored with anything that identifies you. Details in the privacy policy.
